Sustainability - Recycling Christmas Trees

The majority of an Oncor Christmas tree by weight and bulk can be easily recycled. The box, stand, accessories, and trunk sections are relatively uniform materials that are easily recyclable. It is recommended that consumers wishing to recycle their trees break down the tree by material to facilitate recycling. The recycling of branch tips, which are a mix of recycled PVC plastic and metal wire, would vary by recycling facility and economic interest.

At Oncor's factory, all scrap trees and materials are completely recycled and reprocessed. To process branch tips, we use a custom-made grinder. Magnets are then used to extract the metal content from the ground material. The remaining plastic powder is then reprocessed into use as plastic pipes for industrial use.
